Tottenham Hotspur have been priced out of a move for Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, as reported by The Daily Star.
What’s the story?
Spurs, alongside fellow Premier League outfit Aston Villa, had shown an interest in signing the Serbia international, who is the joint-top scorer in the Championship with Ollie Watkins, on 18 goals.
However, Fulham have priced both clubs out of a move for the 25-year-old with their demands of £40m to prise him away from Craven Cottage.
He scored 11 goals and provided three assists in the top tier last season, and even if third-placed Fulham don’t achieve promotion, it seems as though he will get the chance to build on that tally in 2020/21.
That is because the striker has an option to leave in the summer if Fulham don’t get promoted – something clubs will likely look out for after being priced out this winter.
Levy in typical form
Daniel Levy is not usually someone to spend extortionate sums of money, as shown by the fact that he had never made a signing of over £40m until the summer of 2019 – when Tanguy Ndombele was brought in.
Even then, with the Frenchman being 22 years old when he was signed by the London club, he will have been seen as somebody who has potential to grow and become an even greater asset for the club.
Therefore, it shouldn’t be too surprising to see Levy turning down the idea of signing Mitrovic for such a hefty price, especially when it is considered that he could potentially be brought in for much cheaper during the summer transfer window.

In addition to that, Levy may feel that £40m is a lot to spend on somebody who will only be the main man up front whenever Harry Kane is out injured.
Leaving this move, for now, could turn out to be smart business, showing Levy in typically efficient form.
Meanwhile, Spurs fans were disappointed with one man’s performance in the FA Cup.
