This week we saw the third round of the Capital One Cup swing into action and after some great games, fans of their respective teams are already eagerly anticipating the next big match.
The competition has a rich history and Liverpool have been the most successful side over the years, winning the tournament eight times since its inception. Last year, Cardiff took them all the way to penalties and goalkeeper Tom Heaton almost made himself a hero with his sensational shootout stop from Steven Gerrard.
It wasn’t to be in the end, but the Capital One Cup always needs one individual to light up the game, be it in the first round or the final. These heroes are often the likely suspects but sometimes it is those players who don’t often spend time in the limelight and the League Cup helps ensure they enjoy their moment in the sun.
It’s all down to chance as to which person will get the opportunity to make a name for themselves and become an instant hit with their own supporters, so with that in mind, we bring you the ten players who made themselves unlikely heroes in League Cup history.
