USMNT fail to advance at Copa AmericaBerhalter will face job scrutinyTurner pledges support for managerWHAT HAPPENED?
The USMNT's Copa America came to an abrupt end with a 1-0 loss to Uruguay Monday night in the final group stage match in Kansas City. Panama defeated Bolivia 3-1, and as a result, leapfrogged the U.S. in the Group C standings to advance to the knockout stage.
Speaking postgame with FOX, USMNT goalkeeper Matt Turner pledged support for boss Gregg Berhalter going forward ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

"I see no issue with the direction that we're heading," Turner said. "I mean when you have a fight like that on the bench, in every single game that we were in, in this tournament, it speaks volumes to, you know, the kind of a manager and the way he prepares us – and to be honest, we've been in positions to win in every single game that we played.
"So yeah, I mean everything's still fresh and raw obviously right now. We'll let the dust settle from it. I mean, we can't fault (Berhalter), we can't look anywhere to blame except for ourselves as players. You know, at the end of the day, we didn't do enough and we have to hold ourselves accountable for that."
THE BIGGER PICTURE
After the final whistle, some fans were seen leaving Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City chanting "Fire Gregg" in unison. The U.S. boss has been a divisive subject since his re-appointment in 2023. The USMNT is 0-5-5 agains top-15 teams by FIFA rankings, besides Mexico, on Berhalter's watch.
